The Islamic Declaration on Global Climate Change was the result of a collaboration between Muslim specialists consisting of academics, environmentalists, organisations and individuals culminating in a substantive document drafted by the following team:

Fazlun Khalid

Recognised as one of fifteen leading eco theologians in the world and a recipient of the Muslim News Awards for Excellence in Engineering, Science and Technology in 2004.


Dr Fachruddin Mangunjaya

Environmentalist, Author and Senior Lecturer at School of Graduate Program Universitas Nasional, Chairman Centre for Islamic Studies Universitas Nasional, Vice Director Conservation of Environment and Natural Resources Division, Indonesian Council of Ulama (MUI),  Fellow The Climate Leader Presenter. Visiting Fellow, Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) 2018-2019.  PhD from Post Graduate Program Environmental Management and Natural Resouces (PSL), Bogor Agricultural University.

Member of the Forum on Religion and Ecology and International Society for the Study of Religion Nature and Culture (ISSRNC), environmental journalist and columnist. Advisory member of SiagaBumi (Environment and Interfaith in Indonesia),  member of United Planet Faith and Science Initiative (UPFSI). Member of IUCN-WCPA Specialist Group in Cultural and Spiritual Values of Protected Areas, Advisory and Founder of Borneo Lestari Foundation, Central Kalimantan. Advisory Flight Foundation and SIAGA BUMI, Dewan Pembina (Guarantee) Yayasan Kehati, Advisory Council Interfaith Rainforest Initiative (IRI)-Indonesia.  He also serves as executive editor of Conservation International Indonesia’s TROPIKA Indonesia Magazine. He is independent consultant for several institutions such as UNDP, UNEP and Islamic Science Education Cultural Organization ISESCO, Rabat, Marocco.


Othman Llewellyn

Environmental Planner at Saudi Wildlife Authority and a member of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature’s World Commission on Protected Areas and World Commission on Environmental Law.


Professor Azizan Baharuddin

Deputy Director General of the Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia, a member of UNESCO’s International Bioethics Committee, chair of the Malaysian Bioethics Council, and Chair of the National Committee of Interfaith.


Professor Ibrahim Ozdemir

Professor of Philosophy, Ecology and Religion at Ankara University, Turkey, and author of The Ethical Dimension of Human Attitude Towards Nature.


Dr Abdelmajid Tribak

Head of Environment at ISESCO, Morocco and winner of the Mohamed VI Prize for Islamic Thought and Studies for his book on Islam and Environment (2007).
